Spate of fires in Wellington

NZ Newswire logoNZ Newswire 24/09/2016

A series of blazes in the Wellington region has kept firefighters busy overnight.

Fourteen fire trucks were called to battle a large fire at a block of flats on Devon Street in the Aro Valley at about midnight.

Fire investigators were at the scene on Sunday morning.

That followed an earlier call-out in Tawa, where six units were sent to contain a house fire.

No one was injured in either incident.

Further out of the city, four trucks were called to a Kaitoke farm where a shed containing young calves had caught fire at about 3am.

No animals were hurt, the Fire Service said.
