Speculation is rife former All Blacks captain Richie McCaw and Black Sticks hockey Olympian Gemma Flynn will marry in Wanaka on Saturday.

Security is tight at The Olive Grove, a wedding venue with a view of the lake, and rugby celebrities have been spotted arriving in Queenstown, heading for Wanaka.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen arrived at his Wanaka holiday home which is near McCaw's place, on Friday, Fairfax reports.

Don McCaw, Richie's father, said he hoped the couple's privacy would be respected.

Woman's Day is believed to have exclusive rights to cover the wedding.

Earlier this week media speculated the wedding happened last weekend, but McCaw appeared in public without a wedding band.

A year ago McCaw revealed the engagement, posting on Facebook ""happy new year to everyone. I've had a fantastic start to 2016 and feel very lucky. Gemma said 'yes'! It's been great celebrating our engagement with friends and family in sunny Central Otago. Here's to a great year ahead".

Under McCaw's captaincy, the All Blacks became the first team to win back-to-back World Cups.
