Stand off on restaurant roof resolved

A man who played chicken with police by scaling an Upper Hutt restaurant has been brought down safely.

Police negotiated with the man, who climbed on the roof of Gerry's Charcoal Chicken on Keys St on Thursday morning.

He was wanted in relation to a serious family violence incident, and is alleged to have run from the scene and scaled the building during a police chase.

Police say he was brought down safely and is in custody.
