The NZOC's annual general assembly in Auckland on Wednesday also accepted four new sports for membership.

They are climbing, karate, surfing and roller sports, which have been included in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics programme.

Stanley acknowledged the NZOC's performance in 2016.

He also praised the athletes and support staff in Rio, where New Zealand collected the largest medal haul of medals in its Olympic history - comprising four gold, nine silver and five bronze.

The NZOC finished the year with a financial deficit of $1.151 million, which had been budgeted because of the Rio Olympics.

Net income for 2016 was $11.762m and total expenditure was $12.917m.
