Stewart wins second junior worlds gold

New Zealand's Campbell Stewart has matched his performance of last year by winning a second gold medal at the junior track cycling world championships in Switzerland.

The Manawatu 17-year-old defending his rainbow jersey in the omnium on the penultimate day of competition in Aigle to follow his gold medal in the team pursuit.

Stewart was second overall heading into the second day of the five-discipline omnium and hit the front after winning the 200m flying lap and placing second in 1000m time trial.

The overall lead changed hands several teams during the final event, the points race, before Stewart emerged with victory on 224 points. Tomas Contte of Argentina was second on 218 points.

Stewart's win brought New Zealand's medal tally to six, including three gold.
