Stolen 4WD driven across golf course

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 15/09/2016

A 4WD stolen from a farm north of Christchurch has been driven at high speed through road works, private property, a river and a golf course before coming to a halt in Christchurch.

The chase happened on Thursday morning after the Nissan Patrol, with an A-frame tow bar on the front, was taken from an Amberley property and driven erratically towards the city, police say.

"The male driver drove through roadworks at high speed and damaged fences, private property and a golf course," they said in a statement.

Police chased the vehicle as it went through Woodend, where it sideswiped a family car as children were being dropped at school, NZME reports.

The drive ended in the suburb of Woolston, about 50km away.

Police say the driver is assisting with their inquiries.
