A large Cat excavator has been returned to its Manawatu owners as part of a police haul found following a spate of rural burglaries in the area.

But a treasure trove of stolen vehicles, including a boat, mower and go kart, still remains missing.

Police say they've arrested five people on charges of theft, burglary, firearms and drug related offences after searching three homes over the last week.

They also recovered a stolen Subaru, five guns, two trailers and a large Cat excavator in the process.

But Senior Sergeant Greg Hogan said while it was an "excellent result" a number of big-ticket items were still missing following a series of rural burglaries in the area.

They include an inflatable boat, a go kart, a ride-on mower, a Toyota Landcruiser and a Honda dirt bike.

"If anyone comes across someone trying to sell these items, they are advised to exercise caution and contact police," he said.
