Stolen puppies recovered in police sting

Two expensive bulldog puppies stolen from Gisborne are soon to be reunited with their owner.

The siblings Maui and Alleycat, who are worth well over $1000 each and were left orphaned when their mother Alice died, were stolen three weeks ago, police say.

But "pawsome" detective work by a tactical crime unit and an anonymous tip from the public led to their recent recovery, police say.

Due to the tip, police executed search warrants on homes in the Auckland suburb of Otara and Bay of Plenty town Kawerau where they found the five-month old puppies at the separate addresses.

Maui and Alleycat's "elated owner can't wait to be reunited with her beloved pups", police say.
