A Thai food caravan stolen from a young Auckland couple - taking their life savings with it - has been found.

Eve Supra-At Taku, 30, and Ize Janshinorat, 29, told NZME they had started up the food truck business about five months ago, investing $25,000 into it, only for the vehicle to be driven off from its Massey site in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The couple said they had worked multiple jobs, six days a week to save up for the caravan in hopes of making enough money to buy a house.

But police on Tuesday said an eagle-eyed friend of the couple spotted the caravan partially hidden at a home in Glen Eden and the vehicle had been recovered in a search overnight.

"It's now back with its rightful owners who I understand are extremely thankful to have it returned," Senior Sergeant Matt Laurenson said.

He said police have forensically examined the caravan and had leads about the thief.
