Stool, hockey stick scare off hammer pair

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 6/06/2016

Two Rotorua liquor shop workers have scared off armed would-be robbers, their stool and hockey stick outgunning the offenders' single hammer.

The workers grabbed the stool from behind the counter and the hockey stick when confronted by two robbers, one armed with the hammer, at the Goldie St store on Saturday.

Their resistance "clearly unnerved" the robbers, who fled empty-handed, police say.

The offenders took off in a silver Mazda Demio car, stolen from Auckland, which was found dumped a short time later.

Both are described as Maori men in their twenties, wearing hoodies.
