Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy is confident lock Dale Finucane will play in Saturday's NRL grand-qualifier despite having limited time with the team.

Finucane is battling an ankle injury, picked up in the Storm's preliminary-final win over North Queensland, but will participate in Friday's captain's run in a bid to take on Canberra.

"His preparation's been very limited as far as what he's done with the team. But he's a pretty tough, determined bloke, Dale. I'd like to think he is going to play, but we'll check him out this afternoon and we'll go from there," Bellamy said on Friday.
