Streep's operatic tale makes London debut

Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep is hoping her new film about a tone-deaf opera singer hits the right note as it receives its world premiere in London.

Florence Foster Jenkins, about the woman of the same name, also stars Hugh Grant as the devoted husband and manager of the soprano.

Jenkins was a New York heiress, who was ridiculed by critics for her lack of rhythm and pitch, but went on to sell out New York's Carnegie Hall.

Streep has been praised for her own singing in her previous films, including Mamma Mia and Ricki And The Flash.

Streep and Grant are expected to walk the red carpet at the premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square, along with director Stephen Frears.

The film also stars The Big Bang Theory actor Simon Helberg, as well as Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation actress Rebecca Ferguson.
