Strong quake hits Marlborough

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake has rattled New Zealand's upper South Island.

Described as "strong" by GeoNet, the quake struck at 9.42pm at a depth of 11km and 10km east of Seddon in Marlborough.

Just under 2500 people reported on the GeoNet website that they had felt it.

The Fire Service says there are no initial reports of damage.
