Student hit with hammer in attack

A student suffered skull injuries after being struck with a hammer by an attacker who then fled with his cell phone and car keys in Auckland.

Police arrested a 21-year-old man on Wednesday and charged whim with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery over the attack in Henderson on Saturday night.

The attacker, who did not know the victim, allegedly struck the student on the head with a hammer and assaulted him while demanding before fleeing.

He is expected to face Waitakere District Court on Thursday.
