More than 200 students and adults have had a "big adventure" after being evacuated from an Auckland camp site after being cut off by heavy rain in the region.

Students form Auckland's Stanley Bay School on Year 5 and 6 camp were left stranded on Wednesday morning, after heavy raid closed road access to Camp Adair, in Hunua.

Auckland Civil Defence said the group had been evacuated by bus to a centre at Hunua School.

"The Red Cross and Auckland Civil Defence have been deployed to supply dry blankets at the school when the children arrive, and food is being organised," Auckland Civil Defence's head of emergency operations Aaron Davis said.

"We understand that everyone is well and accounted for."

It was earlier reported rescue boats had been used to shuttle some of the group over.

In a statement, the school said it had been a "big adventure".

"[The] children [are] all in good spirits and warm thanks to the fire brigade and a local farmer," it said.

Civil Defence says parents should contact the school directly.
