Barcelona appealed in a bid to have the Uruguayan star available for the King's Cup final against Alaves in May but were unsuccessful.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez was banned for two Copa del Rey matches on Thursday, meaning he will miss the final against Alaves on May 27.

The Uruguayan was sent off for two yellow cards during the semi-final second leg 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

One additional game was added to the automatic one-match ban for his red card because he refused to go to the dressing rooms and remained on the pitch after being dismissed.

Barcelona appealed the decision to send the striker off. The competition committee ignored their complaint, though they did rescind a booking issued to Sergio Busquets in the same game.

Suarez's second yellow came after he tangled with Atletico midfielder Koke.

The Barcelona forward said after the game: "I'm laughing at that second yellow card, it's not even a foul. I did absolutely nothing."
