Sunwolves fullback Jamie-Jerry Taulagi has been banned for five weeks after his post-hooter red card in his side's Super Rugby defeat to the Chiefs in Hamilton.

Auckland-born Taulagi was marched in the 83rd minute on Saturday for a shoulder charge to the head of Chiefs outside back Shaun Stevenson.

The 23-year-old was cited for dangerous tackling after the 27-20 loss and pleaded guilty.

SANZAAR foul play review committee chairman Nigel Hampton QC says the suspension was reduced from seven weeks after taking into account mitigating factors.

These included the player's remorse, on-field apology, and early guilty plea.

Taulagi will be out of all rugby up to and including June 10.
