Supreme Court rejects Google appeal in class action lawsuit from advertisers

TechCrunch TechCrunch 6/06/2016 Anthony Ha

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear an appeal from Google to throw out a class action lawsuit from California advertisers.

Those advertisers are alleging that by not informing them that ads purchased through the company’s AdWords program might appear on error pages and parked domains, Google misled them about where their ads would be placed, and they’re seeking a refund on their payments.

The suit was filed back in 2008. A federal judge denied the advertisers class action status back in 2012, but that decision was reversed by a federal appeals court. By declining to hear the case, the Supreme Court is basically allowing the case to move forward as a class action suit.

We’ve reached out to Google for comment and will update if we hear back.
