Two men have fled Auckland police by driving down a railway line.

The men were allegedly spotted by members of the public smashing a car window in New Lynn, but when police arrived they made their getaway onto the railway line at the Glen Eden Station.

The driver in the fleeing car drove from New Lynn and up Glenview Road then onto the railway tracks near Glen Eden Station where they left the car.

Police arrested both men who were in the car and it has been removed from the tracks.

Auckland Transport closed the line, which has since reopened.
