Suspicious fire at Porirua siege house

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 1/05/2016

A fire at a Porirua property involved in last month's police siege is being treated as suspicious.

The blaze took hold around 10.45pm on Sunday, at a house in Kokiri Crescent where Pita Rangi Te Kira, 29, had shot and killed police dog Gazza on April 22.

He then holed up in another house and was in an armed standoff with police for around 24 hours.

Te Kira was found dead inside the house by police the following day.

A Fire Service spokesman said the "extensive" fire, that was suspicious, had been extinguished and fire investigators would inspect the scene.
