Swifts to play Vixens in elimnator

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 4/07/2016

Melbourne Vixens will travel to Sydney to play NSW Swifts in Sunday's trans-Tasman netball Australian conference elimination final after clinching third spot on Monday evening.

The Vixens' 66-53 win over Central Pulse in Wellington lifted them two points clear of West Coast Fever, who previously occupied third on percentage from Melbourne going into the final round.

The winner of Sunday's match at the Sydney Olympic Park Sport Centre will play Australian conference winners and defending champions Queensland Firebirds at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Monday July 18.

Queensland started the final round behind NSW on percentage but claimed top spot with a 63-52 home win over Fever on Sunday, after the Swifts were held 59-59 at home by NZ conference winners Southern Steel on Saturday.

Monday's loss ended any remote chance Pulse had of making the finals.

Magic will host the Mystics in the New Zealand conference elimination final at Hamilton's Claudelands Arena next Sunday.

The winner of that match will travel to Invercargill's ILT Stadium Southland, the following Sunday to play the unbeaten Steel.

The semi-finals will feature the two conference winners at home to the losers of the other nation's conference final.
