Centre Seta Tamanivalu has been called into the All Blacks squad for their Northern Hemisphere tour after George Moala was forced out with an elbow injury.

Crusaders recruit Tamanivalu, 24, who played for the Barbarians in their 31-31 draw with South Africa in London at the weekend, will join the side ahead of their match against Italy in Rome.

He has played three Tests.

Moala, who pulled the ligaments off his elbow in the 40-29 loss to Ireland in Chicago, was on his way home.

Second five-eighth Ryan Crotty, who strained his hamstring during the match, will stay with the team and be assessed over the coming weeks in the hope he'll be available for the the final Test of the tour against France on November 26.
