Residents at a Bay of Plenty township are being warned not to drink tap water amid health concerns.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council has issued an urgent warning for residents at Pukehina Beach, telling them flush their water system and to avoid drinking water from their taps.

The warning comes after two complaints about water on Friday morning, with one woman reported to have received a rash while showering.

The council says it is now testing the water supply and is organised bottled water to be delivered to the beach in the interim.
