Taupo Plains power restoration completed

All Taupo Plains properties that had their power cut in a snow storm a month ago have now been reconnected to the network supply.

About 200 properties were affected by the heavy dumping of snow on August 5 and 6, and temporary generators were brought in to provide them with electricity.

Power company Unison says the last of those customers were back on the usual supply on Friday, completing the restoration effort.

"It's great news and has taken a tremendous amount of commitment and effort from our crews and those who offered support," company relationship manager Danny Gough said on Monday.

"Our team is all looking forward to work returning to business as usual."

The company had previously said that damage caused by the storm was the worse for more than a decade.

Unison crews, helped by others from around the country, had to replace more than 200 poles destroyed by the weight of the snow.
