Tax break for gastro-hit businesses

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 19/08/2016

A tax break is on the cards for Havelock North businesses affected by the water contamination crisis.

Revenue Minister Michael Woodhouse says cabinet will consider asking IRD to waive interest on late payments.

"Inland Revenue already has the ability to waive penalties for late payments," he said on Friday.

"But due to the impact of the outbreak on businesses, cabinet will consider enabling interest to be waived for late PAYE and provisions tax payments, due later this month."

He says there was a similar response to the Manawatu floods last year.
