Tax concessions for quake affected

Inland Revenue will make concessions for people affected by the Kaikoura earthquake, the government says.

Use of money interest will be waived for people prevented from paying on time while late filing and late payment penalties will also be dropped for all affected taxpayers.

"This is a difficult time for many in the Kaikoura region and those affected by the earthquake should be looking after themselves and their families first and foremost, rather than worrying about not meeting their tax obligations," Revenue Minister Michael Woodhouse said.

The deadline for Pay As You Earn tax ended on Monday.

Inland Revenue has also announced discretions on income equalisation for quake affected farmers and fishers.
