Team Wellington clinch domestic title

A double to English striker Ben Harris has lifted Team Wellington to a 2-1 win over Auckland City FC in the final of the national premiership.

In a repeat of the result of last year's decider, the men from the capital raised their game on Auckland soil to topple the six-time champions.

Last year's result was decided in extra time but Team Wellington didn't need it this time, defending impressively to maintain a lead set up by the head of Harris.

He opened the scoring in the 10th minute, latching onto a sumptuous cross from Andy Bevin to nod home at the far post.

Prolific Auckland City FC striker Emiliano Tade scored a superb solo goal on the half-hour mark, striking from outside the box to take the score to 1-1 at halftime.

Harris was at it again 6min after the break, scoring from a well-taken corner move which created space for Joel Stevens' cross.

The result reversed the regular season meetings of the two Kiwi powerhouse clubs. Auckland City FC won those two games 4-0 and 3-1.

The teams are on track to meet in another major final this season.

They are on opposite sides of the Oceania Champions League and, on form, should clash in the final.
