Freshly-crowned New Zealand domestic champions Team Wellington have drawn 2-2 with AS Magenta in the first leg of their OFC Champions League semi-final in New Caledonia.

The Kiwi outfit were set to secure a flattering victory before AS Magenta scored via the penalty spot in injury time to leave the play-off level heading into the second leg in Wellington next week.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Team Wellington seized the lead against the run of play through Tom Jackson, from the penalty spot, before Andy Bevin put them in front.

Kevin Nemia scored early for AS Magenta while their late penalty was slotted home by Nicolas Marin.

Team Wellington's performance came less than a week after defending their national premiership crown, beating Auckland City 2-1 in the decider.

The first leg of the other OFC semi-final, between champions Auckland City FC and AS Tefana, will be played in Tahiti on Sunday.
