Team Wellington have accounted for Cook Islands champions Puaikura 4-1 in their opening match of the Oceania Champions League group phase in New Caledonia.

After conceding an early goal, the New Zealand domestic champions struck back through an own goal, Josh Margetts and a double to Nathanael Haliemariam.

Team Wellington's remaining group games this week in Kone are against Ba (Fiji) and Hienghene Sport (New Caledonia), who drew 1-1 in their opening clash.

Only the group winners will advance to the knockout phase in April, with the eventual champions to represent Oceania at this year's Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
