Teen shaken after drive-by cutting

A Nelson teen has been left shaken and grazed after a man hopped out of a passing car to attack him with a knife, police say.

Police said a Toyota was passing the teen on the corner of Arapiki and Main Roads in Stoke on Tuesday afternoon when it stopped and its passenger, armed with a knife, got out.

The man tried to cut the teen - who managed to escape with just a minor graze by dodging out of the way - before getting back into the car and fleeing in the opposite direction.

Police said the teenager had been left shaken and was receiving support.

He said the attacker had dark hair and a rat tail, while the driver had an afro-type haircut. Both men are believed to be in their early 20s.

Police are appealing to the public for information.
