Telco structures will be easier to install

From January next year telco network operators won't have to apply for resource consents when they put up cellphone units, street cabinets and cabling.

The government says the changes will save millions of dollars and make it easier for people to hook up to the new ultra-fast broadband.

"Uptake and appreciation of communications has never been higher, broadband and mobile services are incredibly important in both community life and today's economy," said Communications Minister Amy Adams.
