A Lotto player who bought their ticket in Thames is now $27.3 million richer after striking the fourth highest Powerball win in the history of the game.

Saturday night's winning ticket was sold at Martina Four Square and Lotto in the Coromandel town. It was made up of $27m from Powerball first division and $333,333 from Lotto first division.

"This is the fourth largest Powerball win ever in the history of the game," a Lotteries Commission spokeswoman said.

The three highest winning totals are $36.8m, $33m and $28.7m and the Thames win eclipses Waikato supermarket worker Trevor Cooper's $27m win in 2012.

Anyone buying their ticket from the Thames store was advised to write their name on it and check it for the winning numbers.
