NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 10/05/2016 Cleo Fraser

A third person has appeared in court charged in connection to the alleged murder of a man whose burnt body was found in a Canterbury town.

Police allege Christchurch man Marcus Tucker was brutally assaulted on April 24 before his burnt body was dumped near Lake Ellesmere near Doyleston the following day.

Anthony Richard Dawson, 28, appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday charged with trying to hide evidence so the man accused of Mr Tucker's murder, Peter John Carroll, could avoid arrest.

Dawson was remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the same court on Wednesday.

A 31-year-old woman, who has name suppression, faces the same charge as well as conspiring to assault Mr Tucker.

Both the woman and Carroll appeared in court on May 2 where they were remanded in custody and their cases adjourned until later this month.

Mr Tucker was 36 and had been living Christchurch.
