Third Desert Road crash victim named

Police have named the third person killed in a horror crash amid icy conditions on the Desert Road.

The trio were killed and the driver left with life-threatening injuries after their northbound car crossed the centre line on State Highway 1 and collided with a truck on Monday morning.

Police have now named the third victim as 23-year-old woman Arshpreet Kaur Sidhu, who had been in New Zealand on a work visa and was sitting in the back seat of the car.

Police on earlier named the other two dead as 20-year-old Monalisa Alofaifo, a Samoan New Zealand resident and Twinkle Ansal, a 21-year-old Indian man in New Zealand on a student visa.

They said the two were seated in the back and front passenger seats respectively.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Indian man in New Zealand on a work visa, remains in Waikato Hospital after being critically injured.

Monday's road conditions in the area were described as treacherous with patches of ice and snow falling.
