A trapped man has been freed and three workers rescued from water after scaffolding at a bridge in Auckland's Pakuranga collapsed.

The worker was left stuck on a support beam of old Panmure Bridge after scaffolding collapsed about 10am on Tuesday.

Three workers who fell had been pulled from the water below and a high-angle rescue team was brought in to get the trapped worker down, a Fire Service spokesman says.

There were no reports of injuries.

WorkSafe says it has been notified and is making initial inquiries.

The bridge, finished in 1865, is a Category 2 heritage listed site that spans the Tamaki River. It has been undergoing maintenance work.
