Surveillance footage of the robbery © NZ Police Surveillance footage of the robbery A dairy in Napier has been robbed of cigarettes by three women, one of whom had a weapon.

The women were wearing dark clothing and had their faces obscured by sunglasses or clothing when they went into Arkwrights Dairy on Hastings Street at about 6.30pm on Saturday, says Detective Ross Alexander.

One was armed with a weapon and there was a confrontation with the dairy owner, during which one of the women may have been injured.

They took Holiday branded cigarettes and were last seen running down Hastings Street towards Briscoes.

Police want witnesses and anyone who has been been offered cheap cigarettes to buy to come forward.

In July dairy owners in Tauranga blamed a spate of armed attacks on stores on the increased price of cigarettes.

Years of increases in tobacco taxes have made cigarettes unaffordable for many, they said.
