Gold Coast co-captain Ryan James will risk a two-game NRL ban by contesting a shoulder charge citing by the match review panel.

The Titans forward could escape with a one-match ban but has pleaded not guilty to shoulder charging North Queensland's Patrick Kaufusi in the 32-26 loss on Saturday.

James will travel to Sydney to fight the charge with Titans CEO, Graham Annesley.

"I'll be putting the robes and wig on again tomorrow night, we think we've got a strong defence, we've reviewed the tape and are going to have another look this afternoon," Annesley said on Monday.

The Titans defence will be based around looking at different camera angles which show James made an attempt with his arm before his shoulder hit Kaufusi.

Meanwhile, Canberra second-rower Elliott Whitehead will miss his side's clash with Parramatta after taking an early guilty plea for tripping.

Struggling Canterbury will be without halfback Moses Mbye for Thursday's clash with Brisbane.

Mbye has opted to enter an early guilty plea over a shoulder charge on Manly's Curtis Sironen and will take a one-match sanction.
