A man charged over the fatal shooting of a two-year-old girl in south Auckland can now be named as the victim's father.

Gustav Sanft, 26, was charged with manslaughter and unlawful possession of a pistol after a toddler Amokura Daniels-Sanft was found dead with a gunshot wound at a home on Favona Road in Mangere Bridge on June 2.

At a hearing in the High Court at Auckland last week, it was ruled Sanft's name could be made public on Wednesday.

He and his partner lived with three other children at the Mangere Bridge home, according to police.

Sanft, who is on bail, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and another of possession of a cannabis plant for supply.

He will appear again in court in November.

A three-week trial has been set down for May next year.
