Tommy Smith extends Ipswich Town contract

New Zealand defender Tommy Smith has extended his career at Ipswich Town for a three further seasons.

Smith, who began his career at the second-tier English Championship club in 2007, will also have an option for a further 12 months when his contract expires in 2019.

The English-born 26-year-old has made more than 250 appearances for Ipswich Town and still had a year to run on his contract when he put pen to paper on a new deal.

A cloud surrounds the All Whites future of former skipper Smith, who has played 29 internationals, including every minute of their 2010 World Cup campaign in South Africa.

In May, New Zealand coach Anthony Hudson said he didn't consider selecting Smith for the Nations Cup campaign because of an apparent lack of commitment to the national team.
