Warrington duo James Laithwaite and Gary Wheeler are the latest signings announced by new Canadian club Toronto Wolfpack ahead of their entry into English rugby league's second-tier competition in 2017.

Back rower Laithwaite who has not played for the Wolves since breaking a leg against Leigh in June 2015, and half-back Wheeler, who has made just one substitute appearance this year, follow Leigh winger Liam Kay and Wakefield utility back Craig Hall in committing themselves to Toronto's inaugural season in the English league.

"Both Gary and James have been match winners at the highest level and that's the standard we want in our club," Wolfpack chief executive Eric Perez said.

The 24-year-old Laithwaite, a product of Warrington's academy, said: "I can't wait to get started and begin the next chapter of my career with the Toronto Wolfpack. I'm looking forward to next year and showing the people of Toronto what a great sport we have on offer."

Wheeler, 26, spent six seasons with St Helens and was in the team that reached the 2011 Grand Final but a succession of injuries restricted him to just 12 appearances for Warrington since joining them in 2015.
