New Zealand tennis player Marina Erakovic has drawn a tough opening opponent when the Australian Open begins in Melbourne on Monday.

The top-ranked Kiwi will clash with current French Open champion and world No.7 Garbine Muguruza of Spain on the showcourt Margaret Court Arena.

The pair have met once previously, two years ago in the first round of the Australian Open, where Muguruza was the winner 7-5 6-0.

In the men's doubles, Marcus Daniell and Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner face Argentina's Guillermo Duran and Joao Sousa of Portugal in the first round.

Fellow New Zealander Michael Venus and Swedish partner Robert Lindstedt will play German duo Andre Bermann and Jan-Lennard Struff, while Artem Sitak and American Nicholas Monroe play James Cerretani (US) and Philipp Oswald of Austria.
