Tour de France spot for Henderson

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 23/06/2016

Kiwi veteran Greg Henderson will ride in his fourth Tour de France after being confirmed in the nine-man Lotto Soudal team for the epic.

The 39-year-old, who has said that this is likely to be his final year as a pro cyclist, will join fellow Kiwis George Bennett and Shane Archbold on the 21-stage event which starts on July 2.

He will act as lead-out rider for team sprint star Andre Greipel.

Manager Marc Sergeant said they were targeting stage wins for the big German.

"Our goals are clear. We aim for a stage win with Andre Greipel.

"During the Tour he can rely on his sprint train," he said.

Last year Henderson ruled himself out of competing at this year's Olympics after featuring in the previous five either on the track or the road.
