Trailer-toppling winds, rain spark warning

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 26/06/2016

High winds have blown over a truck's trailer on the Napier-Taupo Road.

The overturned trailer was blocking one lane near the summit of State Highway 5 on Sunday afternoon, prompting police to urge motorists to take care on Hawke's Bay roads.

No one was injured in the accident.

Meanwhile, the MetService has issued a severe warning for the Tararua Range and eastern parts of Otago.

The Tararuas could be doused in up to 120mm of rain over 24 hours and up to 60mm could fall in North Otago and Dunedin.

Rivers and streams could rise rapidly and slips and surface flooding are possible.
