Train track fault causes chaos in Auckland

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 7/04/2016

Auckland trains commuters have been once again left hanging with the city's rail network being thrown into chaos on Friday.

An early morning track fault has seen cancellations and delays across the city's network, with some lines terminating before they reach central Auckland's Britomart.

The delays left hundreds of commuters waiting at The Strand and Newmarket and stations.

Auckland Transport called for people to find alternative transport.

Services across the Onehunga line were entirely suspended and commuters were asked to use the southern line or buses.

The fault is the third problem on the city's train lines in just eight days.

Last week, parts of the network suffered two straight days of delays, after a train broke down between the Newmarket and Britomart stations on Thursday and a woman jumped onto the tracks in Middlemore on Friday.
