Tramper rescued after fall in park

A tramper has been airlifted from the Kahurangi National Park after becoming stuck precariously under a steep bank after a fall.

The man activated his locater beacon between Mt Dommet and Ugly River at around 6.30pm on Monday.

Crews from the Nelson-Marlborough Rescue Helicopter say the man slipped while tramping on a higher bank and became stuck precariously on a rock.

He was flown to Karamea and assessed for hip injuries and mild hypothermia.
