A mother and her 14-year-old daughter have been rescued after having to spend a night in a Bay of Plenty forest.

The 40-year-old hiker and her daughter were out tramping in the Rotoma forest area on Saturday when they became fatigued and called for a rescue.

The pair were found by rescue teams at 3am but couldn't be walked out.

At first light on Sunday a rescue helicopter collected the pair and flew them to Kawerau for medical checks.
