Trial date set for child murder trial

James Stedman Roberts, 35, is charged with killing five-year-old Leon Jayet-Cole who died in May last year.

The boy was admitted to hospital with serious head injuries and died two days later.

Roberts will stand trial on October 31 after the date was set in the High Court at Christchurch on Friday.

The trial is expected to last three weeks.
