Emergency services have closed a section of the main highway south from Auckland, following a truck crash.

One person was taken to hospital after the collision involving two trucks south of Ramarama near the exit to Bombay, on Monday morning.

A police spokeswoman said southbound traffic was backed up to Ramarama.

The New Zealand Transport Agency advised motorists to leave the Southern Motorway at Drury and use Great South Road, until they reach the Mill Road entrance back onto the motorway.

Traffic through the area is heavy and motorists should expect delays, the agency said.
