A man who stole a car belong to Newshub outside a Rotorua courtroom on Tuesday was already facing driving-related charges at court that day.

A Newshub TV crew was inside the courthouse covering a High Court manslaughter trial when the car was stolen.

Within an hour, a man due to appear in the District Court on a driving-related matter was arrested in connection with the theft.

He had been identified from CCTV footage of the court's upstairs waiting area.

He was kicking, screaming, cursing and swearing as a group of police officers escorted him from the building.

The vehicle, branded with Newshub's name and logo, had not been found by late Tuesday afternoon, while a woman wanted in connection with the theft is also being sought.

The car contained a large quantity of valuable electronic equipment as well as a reporter and camerawoman's personal possessions.

Footage shot in flood-ravaged Edgecumbe on Monday and scheduled to be screened this week was in the boot.

Police inquiries are continuing.
