Detectives today launched a manhunt for Natalya Shieff after she was reported missing.

The mysterious disappearance marks the second author search to be launched by officers in the area within the space of 24 hours, after Helen Bailey was reported missing on Sunday.

The two women live barely 15 miles apart and their sudden disappearances were reported the day after each other - prompting a major police hunt to find them.

Ms Shieff - whose profile page on LinkedIn describes her as a writer of poetry, music and children's books, as well as being a charity volunteer - was last seen leaving a gym on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the 38-year-old was last seen leaving the Fit4less gym in High Street, Hatfield, Herts., at around 1pm on Sunday.

She was described as being around 5ft 5ins tall, of thin build, and with dark brown shoulder length hair.

She was last seen wearing a baggy jacket, pink sports top, multi-coloured trainers, dark grey jogging bottoms and a red Arsenal FC woolly hat.

Ms Shieff vanished on the same day police revealed they were also searching for Mrs Bailey, who was last seen a week ago.

Friends have not heard from the 51-year-old since then and police have mounted a search operation for her.

She was described by police as slim and with long black hair, but it was not known what she was wearing at the time she went missing.

Her husband of 22 years, John Sinfield, drowned on February 27, 2011 after being swept out to sea during a holiday in Barbados, leading her to go on to write the Planet Grief blog.

The novelist, who walked out during the first year of her PHD in science to become a writer, turned the blog into a book "When Bad Things Happen In Good Bikinis" and was published in October last year.

Police revealed the 51-year-old could have travelled to Kent, Northumbria and London and were urging anyone with information to come forward.

Mrs Bailey was reported missing from her home in Royston, Herts. - around 15 miles away from Hitchin, the home town of Ms Shieff.
